How does an author publish an Open Access article?

Once an article has been accepted for publication, the submitting corresponding author will receive an email with a link to the Post-Acceptance Author Journey, which outlines the steps for authors after acceptance.

As part of this process, the author will be asked to review and confirm their affiliation details, which are essential for verifying the author’s eligibility. We recommend using an institutional email address.

Based on the information provided, the author will be presented with the available publishing options, including the possibility of publishing under a transformative agreement.

Elsevier - OA workflow

Once the open access option has been selected, the author must choose a CC licence in the “Select your user licence” section. CzechELib recommends using the CC BY licence. Once the licence has been selected, the process for the author is complete.

The institution will then verify whether the author meets the conditions for benefiting from the concluded transformative agreement.

Upon approval, the author will receive an email confirming that the article processing charge (APC) has been covered.

If the institution rejects the author’s request, the author will be able to publish the article either behind a paywall or in open access mode by paying the APC.
