How does an author publish an Open Access article?
- After an article is accepted for publication, the author is asked by the publisher to sign a “publishing agreement”.
- The publisher’s system recognizes the author’s affiliation based on three informations:
- institutional e-mail domain in the contact details;
- the affiliation selected by the author (the most important parameter);
- the IP address from which he/she fills out the “publishing agreement.”
- If the author’s institution is a member institution of the consortium, the article type is in the list of eligible types and the journal is in the list of eligible titles, then the author will see information about the transformative agreement.
- At this point, the author can decide whether to continue publishing OA, or choose No, I want to publish my article without open access.
- In the next step, Publishing and rights, he/she will be able to select the Submit for approval option if he/she is publishing OA.
- The author must then sign the Licence to Publish.
- Once an article is approved for OA token usage by the member institution administrator, the article is published in OA mode.
- In case of rejection of an article by the OA administrator of a member institution, the author has the option to pay the publication fee him/herself or to choose to publish the article in the standard mode (the article will be behind a paywall).
